Glass beads are a favorite material for use in blast cabinets today. It does a fine job of general paint and rust removal, deburring, satin finishing (stainless steel, aluminum, brass, copper, etc.) and will hide most grinding marks, scratches and pitting. It comes in many different screen sizes and produces one of the finest looking finishes of any material out there. Besides blasting and peening applications, it finds widespread use in pavement marking and can be added to plaster or paint for textured finishes. Because of its round particle shape and relatively soft hardness (5.5moh) the probability of any base metal removal or dimensional change in the substrate is all but eliminated on the first pass. These same characteristics make it valuable as a peening or "pounding" media when stress relieving is desireable. It should be noted that stress relieving in classic automobile panels such as hoods, decklids and tops is not desirable and a major cause of oil-canning. Several examples of glass bead uses can be found in PICTURES PAGE#2. If we can help answer any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
