Welcome to our web site. Please feel free to explore more than 15 pages full of insightful pictures of our plant, equipment and methods of operation. Most of our competitors won't show anything more than a few pictures of the outside of their facilities and possibly a few projects. We will very openly show you step by step the equipment we use, the medias required and detailed explanation along the way. Contained in the following pages of information are thoughts, reasonings and pictures demonstrating multiple abrasive blasting techniques and procedures.
For 13 years, Consolidated Stripping has been serving your paint removal and blasting media needs. We are a full service stripping and metal surface preparation facility located in Plainwell, Michigan.
We also manufacture our own line of blasting cabinets, media reclaimers, blast room equipment, mobile and stationary pressure pots, water separators, air cooled after coolers, cartridge style pulse dust collectors, fork lift extensions and other abrasive blasting related equipment.
The company relocated to the city of Plainwell industrial park in January of 1993. We currently operate 2 shifts Monday thru Saturday . Office hours are 9-5 Monday thru Friday and 10-2 on Saturdays.
In addition to manufacturing, we offer a number of different services including thermal processing, general abrasive blasting, glass bead peening and finishing on aluminum and stainless steel, specialty blasting applications with walnut shells and corn cob grit, epoxy priming, mobile blasting, equipment rentals, self-serve stripping, media warehousing and discount sales.
We operate a completely chemical free paint removal service. This gives us the benefits of increased quality, predictable results, no hazardous waste generation, and a safer working environment. We process most ferrous industrial and commercial parts with several different grades of Black Magnum, a safe and effective replacement for silica sand. But our specialty is located in the classic and collectible automotive stripping and derusting arena. We strip hoods, deck lids, doors, entire bodies, and frames without damaging or warping panels.
We stock and distribute several different lines of loose abrasive materials for private, commercial and industrial uses. From stainless steel finishing to antique automotive restorations, we have the right material and technical experience to help you with your most challenging metal cleaning and surface finishing applications. Included in our line of loose abrasives are BLACK MAGNUM by STANBLAST, GLASS BEADS by FLEX-O-LITE, CORN COB GRIT by GREEN PRODUCTS, and BLACK WALNUT SHELLS by HAMMONS PRODUCTS. These represent some of the finest manufactured abrasives in the business.
We are committed to the promotion of this specific product line and have developed a system of incorporating multiple medias custom tailored to the application. We are intimately familiar with their use and we stand behind the products we use and sell. You can be confident that when we dispense advice, it came from hard earned and slow learned experience. We won't sell you something we haven't found a use for in the last decade.
As a public service, we would like to point out that not all sand blasting operations actually use silica sand. In fact, current regulations concerning the use of silica sand for abrasive blasting applications have made it economically impossible to use legally and maintain a workers' compensation policy. The reason is called SILICOSIS. If you're not familiar with this word, you have no business "sand blasting". In the case of SILICOSIS, what you don't know will kill you. For this reason we don't use it, we don't sell it and we strongly discourage it's use as an abrasive or children's play sand, for that matter. GET EDUCATED ABOUT SILICOSIS, IT COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE. IT WILL IMPROVE YOUR HEALTH.
As was said earlier, we have the right material for your project. Silica sand is not that material. It is also the reason so many restoration projects end up defaced, destroyed, warped , oil canned and the like. You cannot expect professional grade results from substandard abrasive and novice restoration techniques like silica sandblasting. It should also be noted that chemical stripping of same is not all it's cracked up to be either. All too often the results of residual chemical left in the seams will destroy a perfect paint job. It is our opinion that the best combination concerning classic automobile stripping is accomplished with a combination of thermal processing followed by abrasive and non abrasive media blasting methods. Any method practiced by a knowledgeable individual will most likely be successful. However, specialty media blasting gives the most consistent results and produces far less "special" waste than other methods. The least attractive and most time consuming way to strip something is with a D/A.
We are always working on additional information to present on our web site. We hope it sparks some questions and provides useful information on different stripping abrasives, techniques, equipment, and interesting pictures for all. If you can't find information on something you want please let us know as we add to and edit our site regularly. In the mean time, please email or pick up the phone. Personally we prefer the phone. 1-269-685-1340 Ask for Don. Or if you prefer, contact us at donschmidtke1@yahoo.com with any questions or comments. We will do our best to respond in a timely fashion.
